From New York Times best-selling author Claire Contreras comes a new, sexy, 100 percent stand-alone novel. "What they would do is they would be holding a rally somewhere in the state almost every night of the year in North Carolina," Cunningham tells Fresh Air's Terry Gross. The violence and terror tactics of the Klan aside, one of the things that jumped out at Cunningham during his research was the Klan's organization: what it was able to do on a daily basis, and how that shaped its place in communities. That fact itself may not be surprising, but in the introduction to his new book, Klansville, U.S.A., David Cunningham also reveals that, "While deadly KKK violence in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia ha garnered the lion's share of Klan publicity, the United Klan's stronghold was, in fact, North Carolina." North Carolina, Cunningham writes, had more Klan members than the rest of the South combined.Ĭunningham's book focuses on the rise and fall of the KKK in the U.S., and specifically in North Carolina. As the civil rights movement gained momentum in the 1960s, Ku Klux Klan activity boomed. Go blow up an office building and draw an big smiley face on the side of the building? Okay! Go cut someone’s balls off? Okay! You weren’t allowed to question Tyler’s methods (The first rule of Project Mayhem is you do not ask questions) and they just go along with whatever he says. What I found most striking about this book for me is that thousands of men would just obey Tyler’s every command blindly. Project Mayhem spreads all across America and there’s loads of groups. One example of the various “Homework Assignments” that they do is putting bumper stickers on cars that say things like ‘I drive better when I’m drunk’ or ‘Make mine veal’. This then escalates into Project Mayhem, which are sort of social terrorists. The book is about a man who has no name (the Narrator) who meets Tyler Durden after his apartment is blown up and creates an underground club in which they fight other men. I was intrigued to read it as I wondered how that story would read as a book and what the book would have that the film left out. Fight Club has always been one of my favourite films, and for me the best thing about a film is always finding out that there’s a book. It is a must-watch for anyone looking for a fluffy and relaxing series. She's wandering through it and seeing all of these kids looking up at her, and she imagines the walls of that room spreading to infinity filled with billions of faces of children. There's a section in the first book called "The Infinite Sea" and it's referencing that moment - which is one of my favorites in the first book - when Cassie has finally reached the safe room where somewhere in that room is Sam.
